Title: Provides point of reference on the forthcoming note, so you know what the note is about before you read it

Every note fits into at least one of four categories:

TYPE of Material: e.g. Plan specifies APA-rated sheathing, but this isn’t a product. A decision has to be made: Plywood or OSB. Both are right, but which one was chosen

QUANTITY of Material: e.g. The general notes call for the O.C.S. of the studs to be 24" o.c., but the cross-section calls for them to be 16” o.c.

BUILDING DESIGN: e.g. A beam is drawn in the plan, but is unsupported on one end. We know it won’t levitate, so a decision must be made as to what will support it!

FOR YOUR INFORMATION: e.g. Plan calls for 1-1/8” roof-decking and we are pretty sure it’s a typo on the plan, so we call 1-1/8”, but we flag it in a note so you can discuss with the builder before the product is shipped.

Items to Reference: This captures all the data we reference in making a decision, whether page numbers, details, conversations with the architect, engineer, etc.

My Recommendations: This is the party with whom we recommend you confirm the decision that has been made.

Title Block: Clearly shows the job name, floor level and joist series and spacing utilized.

Job Information: Critical information is included in each calculation. Job name, customer, calculation tag and file are just a few of the items included to make referencing later that much easier.

Member Span: Imported directly from BC Framer, the spans are concise and consistent with the true field conditions joist will be utilized in.

Loading: Your loading defaults are incorporated into the calculations for a clear and dependable output that corresponds with your local requirements.

Design Criteria: Whether defaulting to code standards or not, calculations are performed to your design limits ensuring that the approval process is streamlined without any bumps.
